S – Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, … (Philippians 1:27, ESV)
O – The apostle tells the church that there is a right way to live (which implies there are wrong ways). But rather than us focusing on the effort that “I” am putting into the worthy life, we are to be standing side by side, standing firm in one spirit, with one mind. Our individual efforts for the gospel can be contrary to the Spirit of Christ if it distances us from the body of Christ. This is just one more example in a long list of how necessary we are to one another.
A – Today I want to examine my relationships with those who are striving for the faith of the gospel. Am I building a stronger bond with them now so that when the pressure increases we will come together? Or am I allowing myself to wander about as the lone-wolf as I attempt to serve Christ? Today I will work to strengthen the ties that bind us in unity of the faith.
P – Lord, I know that it is not good for man to be alone. From the beginning your Word states that very clearly. I also know that it is easy for me to avoid others. For this I ask forgiveness. Help me to build up the bond with those who desire to do your will and let me be strengthened and strengthen them as we work together in harmony. This is what I ask for today and trust you will accomplish this even in someone like me. May Your Name be lifted up by our lives today. Amen!
